Does My CPR Certification Renew When I Qualify for Instructor Renewal?

You are not the only instructor that has asked if your CPR certificate gets renewed when your instructor card is renewed.

Your CPR certificate expires after 2 years. It does not automatically renew when your instructor card does. These are each completely separate certificates.

A CPR training certificate is required as part of the training needed when you initially become an instructor. It is not needed to renew your instructor certificate. Your instructor card stays active by staying up-to-date with our guidelines and teaching at least 2 classes during your active 2 year instructor period.

You do not need an active CPR certificate to maintain your instructor status, but most of the time, you will want to obtain another CPR certificate to meet your employer's and licensing department's requirements. It is your responsibility to review your guidelines so you know the best course of action for renewing your CPR.
